Alex Marinelli was named Director of Major Gifts for JMU’s Duke Club on August 12th, 2024.
Alex arrives in Harrisonburg following three years at Furman University, where he most recently served as the Director of Athletics Development. In his role with the Paladins, Marinelli was responsible for all aspects of the Furman Athletics Fund, acting in both internal and external capacities throughout his time in Greenville, SC. In total, the Furman Athletics Fund amassed $42.9 million in philanthropic commitments over the course of Marinelli’s tenure.
Prior to joining the Furman Athletics staff, Alex served as the Annual Fund Coordinator for the 12th Man Foundation at Texas A&M, where he coordinated cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for the foundation. In addition to holding responsibilities within the Young Alumni and Student Foundation programs, Marinelli also supervised and managed a staff of 100+ concierge team members, and was responsible for premium seating and hospitality needs within Kyle Field, Blue Bell Park, and Davis Diamond.
Marinelli also has prior athletics administration experience at Villanova University, where he served as the Assistant to the Athletic Director from 2019 through 2020.
A native of Hyde Park, NY, Marinelli received his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine from Marist College in 2019, where he also competed as a baseball student-athlete.
