Bradley Burgess returned to James Madison in June of 2017 as assistant director of development following one year in a similar fundraising role at Western Carolina University.

From 2014-16, Burgess served as a graduate assistant in student-athlete leadership development at JMU. His responsibilities included assisting in overseeing SAAC operations, researching, developing, and implementing holistic student athlete development initiatives and day-to-day operations in the student athlete leadership development office.

Burgess graduated with cum laude honors in 2014 from the Hart School at JMU with a Bachelor of Science in sport and recreation management with a minor in business. In 2016 he completed a master's degree in sport and recreation leadership also from JMU.

During his undergraduate career, Burgess was able to gain experience through practicums and internships in the athletics marketing, compliance, volunteer team manager, and administration departments.  He was also the sport club council president for a year, overseeing all club sports through UREC at JMU. He spent the summer of 2013 interning for the John Purdue Club, the athletics development arm of Purdue University.

Burgess was the founding president of JMU's competitive club golf team along with the founding president of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. During his time in Harrisonburg Burgess was a member of the First Tee of Harrisonburg board of directors.

Brad and his fiancé Katherine ('14) met while undergraduate students at JMU. They plan to marry in April 2018 near both of their hometowns in Northern Virginia. In his spare time, Brad loves to watch movies, play golf, travel, and spend time with family and friends.
