This summer, we're rolling out something special: the Summer Fund Series , a fun and engaging look at the many ways you can champion JMU Athletics throughout the year. Think of it as your seasonal guide to understanding the impact of giving—clear, approachable, and full of the energy that defines our JMU community.
Throughout the series, we'll break down the pillars that elevate the student‑athlete experience, from the foundational Proud & True Fund  and the growing influence of the Student‑Athlete Enhancement Fund  to capital projects , endowments , and sport‑specific giving .
We're kicking things off with a timely comparison of the Proud & True Fund and the Student‑Athlete Enhancement Fund as we celebrate the one‑year anniversary of the Student‑Athlete Enhancement Fund and the meaningful progress it has already inspired.

One year ago, today, JMU Athletics introduced the Student-Athlete Enhancement Fund in response to the changing landscape of collegiate athletics. Throughout the first year of this fund, the JMU community answered our call, providing $1,560,834.00 in philanthropic support for JMU student-athletes by way of the Student-Athlete Enhancement Fund.
Simultaneously, the JMU community also remained faithfully generous in support of the Proud and True Fund , which has long-served JMU Athletics. During the same time period, the JMU community provided $5,486,485.00 in philanthropic support for JMU Athletics by way of the Proud and True Fund.
So, what's the difference between these two funds, and exactly do each of these funds support? We're glad that so many of you have asked this question...

Your gift to the Proud and True Fund supports the People , Places , and Processes of JMU Athletics. This vital fund is utilized at the discretion of Director of Athletics, Matt Roan, to support a variety of initiatives at JMU, including but not limited to:
- Student-Athlete Scholarships
- The Student-Athlete Experience
- Maintanence of Existing JMU Athletics Facilities
- Recruitment and Retention of Coaches and Staff
- Day-to-Day Operations of JMU Athletics
- Fan Experience

The Proud and True Fund is the root of our mission at the Duke Club. When you give to the Proud and True Fund, you are helping to provide academic, athletic, and experiential excellence for JMU student-athletes, and the JMU community as a whole!

Your gift to the Student-Athlete Enhancement Fund supports JMU Athletics' mission to Recruit , Retain , and Rise . Following the settlement in the NCAA vs. House case, institutions may now provide direct financial benefits to student-athletes. This fund empowers the JMU community to elevate the student-athlete experience and positions the university to offer these benefits with a focus on the following priorities:
- Recruit Elite Student-Athletes to JMU
- Retain Exceptional JMU Student-Athletes
- Continue the Rise of JMU Athletics as a National Competitor

The Student-Athlete Enhancement Fund is a strategic investment in the future of JMU Athletics. By focusing on recruiting and retaining top-tier student-athletes, the department and its constituents will work collectively to ensure that JMU remains competitive on a national level.

As we stand today, JMU Athletics prioritizes both the Proud and True Fund, and the Student-Athlete Enhancement Fund, equally. While these allocations do stand as a priority for the institution, we encourage the JMU community to support the allocations that best suit their desired impact upon the institution.
