Today is James Madison University's first dedicated Giving Day. What a tremendous opportunity to show the spirit and commitment to our cherished institution! I hope you will join me in making a Duke Club gift today and supporting JMU Athletics.
 
JMU Athletics is proud to partner with the university on this important occasion. It takes all departments, schools and academic programs to work together to achieve the institution's shared vision. We are just one important piece of a larger coordinated effort to help JMU collect new dollars, grow its donor database, add to its endowment and increase in national prominence.
 
Our goal for JMU Athletics today is to collect $24,500, the equivalent of one in-state, student-athlete scholarship. Every dollar raised towards scholarships supports the student-athlete experience at James Madison and supports the revenue goals of our strategic plan. Every gift, even as small as $5, will make an impact on our Giving Day goal.
 
It's been an incredible year for success within our department. Our teams are winning at a nearly 70 percent clip. We have celebrated conference or regular season championships in football, field hockey, volleyball, women's soccer and women's basketball to go along with individual championships in swimming and diving and track and field. A JMU student-athlete has been the CAA Player of the Year in football, field hockey, volleyball, women's basketball and diving. We have already advanced individuals or teams to national postseason opportunities in football, women's soccer, women's basketball, diving and track and field. We had 65 student-athletes achieve Dean's or President's List in the Fall to go along with multiple individual and team academic accolades. Hosting College GameDay in October was the cherry on top of a tremendous year of achievements to date.
 
With so much to celebrate, you can recognize the achievements of these student-athletes by supporting the scholarships that provide these opportunities. Your gift today truly makes a difference in their experience at JMU. Your gift also helps us to grow our donor database and ensures the future success of our university.
